Adventure, Balance, and “Click” Moments: Demi Sidra’s RSGK Journey
If you’ve ever spent a Saturday morning at a suburban sports field, you’ve probably seen "The Meltdown." You know the one: the bottom lip starts trembling, the soccer ball is "stolen" by a teammate, and suddenly, the game is over before it even began. For Demi Sidra, this wasn't just something she witnessed from the sidelines; it was her reality.
Today, Demi is the powerhouse owner behind Ready Steady Go Kids (RSGK) in Blacktown, Penrith, St Marys, and Stanhope Gardens. But before she was leading the charge for multi-sport fun in Western Sydney, she was a mum just looking for a win. Her journey from a frustrated parent on the sidelines to a thriving business owner is a story of adrenaline, personal growth, and finding that elusive "sweet spot" of work-life balance.
The Catalyst: When "Sharing" Isn't Caring (Yet!)
Every great business journey starts with a problem that needs solving. For Demi, that problem was finding an activity where her son actually felt successful. Like many parents, she had enrolled him in various sports programs, hoping he’d catch the "athlete bug." Instead, she found herself dealing with tears and tantrums.
"This was the program my son chose to try after crying in many other sports he attended," Demi recalls. It turns out, for a high-energy little boy who hadn't quite mastered the complex social nuances of "sharing is caring," traditional sports can be a bit of a nightmare. There’s a lot of standing around, a lot of waiting for a turn, and usually only one ball for twenty kids to chase.
When they found Ready Steady Go Kids, everything changed. "It was colourful, engaging, and mostly there was not much waiting or sharing for a little kid," Demi explains. The RSGK philosophy of ensuring every child has their own piece of equipment most of the time was a game-changer. No more standing in a long line waiting for one kick; in Demi’s classes, if we’re practicing soccer, everyone has a ball. If we’re working on T-ball, everyone gets a go.
It was an all-inclusive program that saw her son for who he was: a kid who needed to move, not a kid who needed to wait.
The Leap: Trading the Grind for the School Run
Demi was already working with children, so she knew she had the passion for it. However, the structure of her career wasn't aligning with the needs of her family. "I needed a career change that would allow me to be more present and available for my family," she says. "Long hours were no longer suitable."
We’ve all been there: the dread of missing another school assembly, or the stress of rushing to after-school care before the doors lock. Demi decided she wanted more. She wanted the ability to do school drop-offs and pick-ups. She wanted to be the one cheering from the sidelines of her son's life, not just managing everyone else's.
Taking the leap into owning a franchise in Blacktown, Penrith, St Marys, and Stanhope Gardens provided the perfect bridge. It allowed her to combine her love for developing children’s skills with a schedule that actually worked for a modern parent. Now, she’s home at a reasonable hour, and the "boss" she answers to is often her young son (who, she admits, "challenges me every day!").
Why RSGK Stands Out in a Crowded Field
When you ask Demi what makes RSGK different from the million other kids’ activities out there, she doesn't skip a beat. It’s about the science of play and the reality of toddler attention spans.
"The main difference is each child has a piece of equipment most of the time," she says. "Most of the class they are participating versus waiting for their turn the whole class. Participation and engagement leads to better learning outcomes... and less time for distractions!"
But it’s more than just keeping them busy. Demi has seen firsthand how the multi-sport approach helps parents understand their children better. By cycling through different sports, parents get a front-row seat to see what their child actually loves. Is it the hand-eye coordination of tennis? The foot-eye coordination of soccer? Or the balance required for athletics?
"It helps a parent see what skills a child may need more help with," Demi notes. Whether it’s gross motor skills or social confidence, the benefits of the program extend far beyond the classes. It’s about school readiness and giving kids the tools they need to navigate the playground with confidence.
Magic Moments and Quirky Stories
You can’t work with kids without having a few "magic moments" tucked away in your pocket. For Demi, the reward isn't just in the business growth; it’s in the "click."
"I love working with many different personalities and working out how best to help each child," she says. "Watching them learn their skills and seeing the moment it ‘clicks’ for them is incredible."
Then, of course, there are the stories. If you’ve ever talked to a four-year-old, you know they are the ultimate unreliable (and hilarious) narrators of their own lives. Demi thrives on the quirky stories the kids bring to class. From tales of pet goldfish that can "fly" to detailed explanations of why they are wearing their superhero cape under their RSGK uniform, the entertainment is endless.
The most rewarding part, however, is the transformation. "The most memorable ones are children that come to class shy," Demi shares. "By the time they leave our program, they have improved skills, coordination, and confidence both in and out of RSGK."
The Support System: A Phone Call Away
Stepping into business ownership can be daunting, but Demi found that she wasn't alone. From the very beginning, the support from the RSGK Head Office and the wider network made the transition seamless.
"Head Office are always only a phone call away," she says. Whether it’s Danie, the Franchisor or the friendly voices in the customer support centre, Demi found a community of people ready to brainstorm ideas, solve problems, or just offer a bit of advice. It’s that safety net that allows a franchisee to focus on what they do best: delivering amazing classes and growing their local community.
Outside the Red, Green, and Blue: An Adrenaline Junkie’s Downtime
If you thought Demi’s life was all about gentle encouragement and toddler soccer, think again. Outside of the RSGK world, Demi is a bit of an adrenaline junkie. When she travels, she’s not just sitting by the pool; she’s looking for the highest point to jump off or the fastest vehicle to drive.
"I enjoy activities on the daring side when overseas," she laughs. "Zip-lining, scuba diving, skydiving, quad biking, jet skiing: the list goes on!"
It’s this same adventurous spirit that she brings to her business. But when she’s not jumping out of planes or trekking through the wilderness on a hike, she finds balance in the quiet moments. She loves dancing, martial arts, and: perhaps most surprisingly for a thrill-seeker: the focused, meditative art of Diamond painting. It’s a perfect metaphor for her life: high-energy adventure balanced with the precision and patience required to build something beautiful, one piece at a time.
Thinking of Joining the Team?
Demi’s advice for anyone sitting on the fence about starting their own RSGK journey is simple and direct:
"START and you won't regret it. It changed my life."
For Demi, the franchise hasn't just been a business; it’s been a pathway to freedom. The flexibility to choose when she works, the fulfilment of seeing kids grow, and the ability to be present for her son are things you can't put a price tag on.
Whether you’re in Blacktown, Penrith, St Marys, or Stanhope Gardens, you’ll find Demi (and probably a few quirky stories) ready to welcome your family to the program.
If you're looking for a way to get your little one moving, or perhaps you're looking for a career change that offers the same work-life balance Demi found, why not check out classes!
As Demi would say, you won't regret it!
